exFlibbeth

exFlibbeth is a free improvisation quartet, the two halves of which combine the influences of the London free improv scene (Benedict Taylor and Tom Jackson), and the scene in Berlin (Manuel Miethe and Abigail Sanders). To divide them another way, Abigail and Benedict both learnt their crafts in Manchester, and will return to perform with talents from their respective cities. Having met at the Wasserturm in Berlin Kreuzberg, the atypical combination of viola, clarinet, soprano saxophone and french horn blend wonderfully to produce a disentangling texture which fills the acoustic space.
Benedict Taylor is a leading figure within the area of contemporary string performance and is at the forefront of the British & European new and improvised music scene. He has had a long-standing musical partnership with Tom Jackson, a clarinettist and saxophonist based in London, largely dedicated to the fields of contemporary classical music and free improvisation.
Abigail Sanders is a french horn player from the UK based in Berlin taking the unconventional route of horn playing – new music, performances with electronics, session work for singer/songwriters, theatre soundtracks, adverts for tablet devices and free improvisation. Sopranist Manuel Miethe is a member of the Hanam Quintet, the Alliteration and the Berlin Improvisers Orchestra, and has performed at festivals across Germany, Austria, France, Switzerland, Italy, England and Poland. Together they are co-founders of the experimental orchestra Giant Owl Research Centre.
