The Navigators – 13 August 2009

Navigators
For some years Charlie Collins and John Jasnoch had been exploring the possibilities of adding a third member to their long-standing duo. Within minutes of Beatrix becoming that third person it was obvious that the resulting trio was something quite special.

Their sound is characterized by a unique combination of “world” instruments (ud, ukelele, mbira) and 20th century inventions (theremin, waterphone, etc) within a purely improvised music.

The sounds span and incorporate several genres in highly original ways while their improvisations aim for an event that can be shared, enjoyed and
understood by others.

Beatrix Ward-Fernandez: violin
John Jasnoch: 12 string guitar, ‘ud
Charlie Collins: drums, mbiras, percussion

About The Noise Upstairs

The Noise Upstairs is an improv collective which runs free-improv nights in Manchester and Sheffield, as well as putting on other improv related events. The basic premise is that anyone can turn up and join in by putting their name in the hat. Names are pulled out, ensembles formed, and hearts broken.
